TEAM HAVOK REQUIREMENTS

Club and Team Havok Requirements

We have a lot of new parents and so I would like to reiterate some of our values
and important details that I don’t always get to put out on a weekly basis.
I believe that we are setting up an atmosphere for our children to succeed in life. We do that by making them fight hard. It is an interesting concept but one that is supported throughout history and life experience. Adversity, trials, and hardship build character, discipline and determination. Playing Judo is a great tool to develop these attributes because daily the children are exposed to losing, hard work, and correction. In the midst of this we must still praise our children. We must recognize their efforts and accomplishments. It is a fine balance; one which is a constant struggle as a Parent or instructor to accomplish. I say all of this to explain the rules and structure of our classes.

Class Rules

1. Never say “I CAN’T”
2. No whining or crying
3. Respect your parents and Instructor by responding with Yes Sir, Yes Mam
4. Be on time
5. No getting off the mat during class for any reason
6. No sitting down
7. Respect the other students by no name calling, teasing, or making fun of them
8. No turtling or pulling guard

TEAM HAVOK PHILOSOPHY

We possess a single, unified goal that affects everything we do. From the starting moment of each practice to the games, to the throwing and grappling the entire team moves as one. We give 100% effort and intensity in every game, every drill, every randori and every competition. The way we move on and off the mat, recognize and take opportunity to throw, pin, or submit our opponents, complete anticipation and understanding of one another. This unified goal is in every Judoka, every minute.
We are committed to working hard every day on and off the mat. We meet exacting physical standards with no complaints and no regrets and give the extra effort to improve ourselves and others both in and out of the gym. Our determination to excel and to win is seen in how exhausted we are after practices, in how we fight to win in competition and in how we develop and maintain our mental toughness at all times. Our work ethic is unmatched.
The success of TEAM HAVOK is built on mutual trust. We strengthen trust every day in practice with our punctuality, effort, work ethic and intensity. Our trust in each other allows us to fight aggressively and take the risks necessary to be a great team and individual. This is OUR team and we share the understanding that what happens on the mat stays on the mat. We work hard to build our personal relationships. Our trust in each other off the mat fuels our cohesion on the mat.
Communications is a strength we build on every day. We talk AND listen to each other, showing our understanding with our body language, understanding the meaning and intent of the message. We have honest, open and tactful communication with each other. We address problems directly and quickly, rather than letting them build up and become worse. We listen closely, stay open to new ideas and strategies and then follow decisively. On the mat, our communication is both verbal and visual. We give and receive instruction easily and see the entire scenario of randori rather than just our individual match. TEAM HAVOK communicates every intention, on and off the mat, with a style that is appropriate to all situations.
Every member of this team is a leader in both word and action. We are optimistic, encouraging and instructive when we work together and we take responsibility for understanding and correcting our mistakes. We know and respect each other's strengths and step up to take charge when the situation arises. We recognize that there is a time to lead and a time to follow and we commit to putting the team's goals ahead of our own. We accept no less.
